Mavlanov-Zampieri (SMP Racing) Champions!

The season ended with a Russian party in Barcelona, as SMP Racing Russian Bears took the last win and the title. Roman Mavlanov and Daniel Zampieri were crowned 2014 overall Champions, thanks to a third position with their Ferrari F458 GT3 in a race won by team mates José Manuel Pérez-Aicart and Vyacheslav Maleev. “It’s an incredible day and an incredible season!” attempted to say Ábel Algué, the team manager of Baporo who prepares the cars a few kilometers from Barcelona.

Nicky Pastorelli-Miguel Ramos took again the vice champion honors after concluding in 2nd a difficult weekend for the V8 Racing Corvette, while Niccolò Schirò-Andrea Montermini lived a bleak Sunday on the Villorba Corse Ferrari that won yesterday, losing all title chances with a couple of mistakes that cost them two drive-throughs.

In GTS, behind Maleev-Aicart, new Champion Giorgio Roda and Marco Cioci (AF Corse) took second and Joel Camathias-Matteo Beretta (Autorlando Porsche) repeated third, also in the championship.

Kox’s Lambo storms sunny free practice

It was a perfect late summer day in Barcelona, with perfect conditions for free practice and no incidents to report. The Reiter-prepared Lamborghini FLII of Peter Kox and Max Völker was the fastest car of the day, with a time of 1.48.781 signed in the morning session. It preceded the three fastest cars of session 2, which were the SMP Ferrari of Zampieri-Mavlanov (the first among title contenders), the SRT Corvette of Tutumlu-Hamilton and the V8 Corvette of Soulet-Sijthoff, all within 3 to 5 tenths from the top.

The Sofrev Ferrari of Ricci-Policand was second-fastest in the morning (5th in the combined), preceding two other new entries, the Novadriver Audi of Monje-Hamprecht and the Balfe Ferrari of Balfe-Keen.

Barcelona: Exciting title battles and many new entries!

The moment of truth has come ! The closing round of the 2014 season of the International GT Open scheduled for next weekend at the Circuit of Barcelona-Catalunya has to deliver the 2014 Champions in both the overall and the classes (SuperGT and GTS) standings, and the battle promises to be quite hot! This is certainly not a new situation for the series, as it is customary that the titles get decided in the last round, but there is no doubt that the battle is extremely close this year.

In the overall standings, three teams will be in contention and are separated by a mere 4-point gap. The V8 Racing Corvette of Nicky Pastorelli-Miguel Ramos are leading, with 179 points (and 5 wins), only 1 point ahead of the SMP Racing-Russian Bears Ferrari of Roman Mavlanov-Daniel Zampieri, who have won 3 races. The Villorba Corse Ferrari of Andrea Montermini-Niccolò Schirò, is third, only four points behind the leader and Montermini (the current reigning champion) is hoping to bring home what would be his third crown in the series. Maxime Soulet (also with a V8 Corvette) is also mathematically still in the race, but with a 27-point gap, his task seems much harder.
