No luck for Pronk and Kox in Brands Hatch
The 6th Round of the Dutch Super Car Challenge took place at the magnificent and 'old school' track of Brands Hatch in GP conversion.
In preparation of the the arrivel of Nico's brand new Mclaren GT3 650S, together with Peter they entered the Brands event with an MC 12 run by Von Ryan to familiarize themselves with the car.
On friday there was free practice and already there it started of with some issues which cost them valuable tracktime to learn car and track.
In qualifying on saturday Peter put the car second and third on the grid for race 1 and 2, with limited running.
Peter took the start for race 1 and lost a position to the fast starting Volvo of Snoeks who took the lead from P3.
The Volvo, Mosler and Mclaren quickly opent a gap to the rest of the field, however two safety car interventions during the first half hour kept the field fairly compact.
At the end of his stint Kox reported to the team that he thought there might be a problem with the throttle response, which became apparent when Nico took over and parked the car after one lap with no drive anymore...
The team of Dave Ryan did an immaculate job in running the car which was on loan from Mclaren, and tried everything overnight to solve the problem.
However after changing numerous parts on the car the team was not sure that they cured the problem..!
Sunday Peter took again the start for the second race of the weekend, and after the famous Paddock Hill bend took the lead.
He quickly opent up a gap to try and build an as big as possible margin for the pitsstop ahead, as they had to serve a time penalty from the result at the race in Zolder which meant that they had to 'stand' longer in the pits then their competitors.
Unfortunately after four laps a misfire started to appear on the car that got worse by the lap, which in the end of his stint was so bad he could not even overtake the slower backmarkers on the straight anymore.
When Peter pitted the team frantically looked if they could solve the problem and get Nico out for his stint, which appeared to be impossible as there could have been even more damage to the engine as already might expected..
So the team was left with no other choice then to retire the car, bringing what could have been a very good weekend to an disappointing end.
