Return to GT Open
Last weekend Peter returned to the GT Open series who had their . round at Silverstone.
Together with Fabian Hampbrecht under the entry of Team Leipert Motorsport Peter started the weekend on Thursday with 2 hours of free practice to acclimatize to the Dunlop tyres which they had to use for this event.
After free practice each driver has a 20 minutes qualifying session which determines the start position for respectively race 1(70min) and race 2(50min).
Fabian was to qualify first and put the car on P6, Peter on P2.
The race on Saturday started on soaring hot conditions and Fabian was troubled by a Porsche in front of him who was loosing cooling liquid, this costing him some places in the opening lap.
In the second lap he then was hit by a Ferrari and broke as well as the front as rear suspension, which meant that the race was over for the Leipert Lamborghini.
Peter started the 50minute race on Sunday and hold on to that position in the opening lap, but was unable to keep with the Porsche in front of him.
At the stop the Lamborghini was still in 2nd place, however lost this during the driver change. However on the outlap the Mercedes in front made a mistake and Fabian quickly retained the position.
He then rapidly caught the leading Porsche, but under estimate the blocking of the driver which enabled the Mercedes to pass him and the Porsche in the same lap.
Having a fresh set of tyres the Mercedes was no match for Fabian and although he could keep up with the Merc on pace the gap was there and that was it.
The Leipert Lamborghini took a well deserved second place and first podium in this series.
