Double victory at Zolder
The Kox Racing Lamborghini was entered at last weekend GT Sprint Series at Zolder in Belgium.
After a few weeks ago, were Peter also took the win in the FIA GT Series, again he climbed on the top step of the podium, this time it was his fellow countryman Nico Pronk who was sharing the spoils with him!
The format of the GT Sprint is also 2 races, one on Saturday and the other on Sunday with a compulsory pits stop between 25-35 minutes.
At Zolder the GT's raced together with the highly popular Dutch Super Car Challenge, and although the rules and regulations are not the same the two fitted well together.
Nico qualified on P5 for the GT series and P12 overall, Peter was on pole for his start on Sunday and third overall on the grid.
At the start Nico maintained his position and could post consistent lap times and stayed in touch with the competition.
After the stop Peter fought his way up to P2 and after a drive through penalty of the leading Audi of Vanthoor Peter inherited the lead and stayed up front, winning it's first race for Kox Racing.
Laurens Vanthoor finished second, exactly the same result as in the FIA GT Series!
Race two on Sunday started dry, but it was clear to see that there was rain on the way, which, for sure, would spice things up!
From P3 Peter immediately overtook the first two cars, which were in the Super Car Challenge anyway, after the first and second corner and tried to open a gap as quickly as possible,as at the stop the Lamborghini had to stand 15seconds longer then the competition, due to the fact that the rules say that the winner gets this extra time penalty.
Five minutes before the pits stop window opened it started to rain quite heavily, which meant everybody would stop as soon as it was allowed.
Nico went in and the mechanics did a very good job in changing the tyres in time of the stop, making sure the car would not loose any valuable time.
The conditions were very treacherous, but Nico settled in immediately and was fast from the outset!
Controlling the gap, to again the Audi, even increasing it in the end, he brought the car home with a dominating margin, giving Kox Racing the best possible result possible for the weekend!
