B-QUIK RETURNS TO SEPANG 12 HOURS
Bangkok – B-Quik Racing is pleased to announce its return to Sepang International Circuit in December to compete in the prestigious Sepang 12 Hours for the second consecutive year with Henk J. Kiks, Daniel Bilski and Peter Kox driving our Audi R8 LMS Cup.
The biggest endurance race in South East Asia, the Sepang 12 Hours was the scene last year of B-Quik Racing’s first ever long distance race participation and the runners up position in the GTC Class was a great debut reward for the team. Even more so as our Audi was fully rebuilt with a new chassis in just 10 days before the event while we in fact led the majority of the race laps and grittily fought back into contention several times after multiple technical issues had sent the car into the garage for lengthy periods.
This year the race is set to become even more competitive as there will be an influx of European teams onto the entry list to take on the best from Asia. That’s because SRO Motorsports Group has taken over responsibly for organising the race for the first time.
As part of the new direction the Sepang 12 Hours is moving from its traditional late August date to 11-13 December. That will also allow it to neatly slot into the close season programme of major international endurance races.
Bringing the experience of SRO into the equation is set to further raise the status of the event on the international stage and turn it into one of the world’s leading endurance races. With that exciting ‘new future’ in place there was even more impetuous for B-Quik Racing to return to test ourselves against some of the best sportscar teams in the world.
B-Quik Racing is also pleased to announce that Peter Kox, one of the leading international sportscar drivers of recent decades, will join our line-up. The Dutchman, a former factory driver for McLaren, Aston Martin and Lamborghini, has also competed in the Le Mans 24 Hours no less than thirteen times, sensationally winning in 2003.
Having spent the majority of his career firmly at the pinnacle of sportscar racing, firstly with Prodrive and then more recently with Reiter Engineering, he has also found time to take in single-seater racing, the British Touring Car Championship and even Australian V8 Supercars, as well as participating in all the world-famous endurance races.
Peter’s record in the Sepang 12 Hours is excellent too. He won the race overall in 2010, that was on his debut in the event, and then was runner up in 2013 on his second visit. He certainly doesn’t want to let that podium record slip on what will be his third shot at the race and that will get the team extra motivation.
Peter will join Henk J. Kiks and Daniel Bilski in the team’s #26 Audi; the latter two having driven the car on our debut in the Sepang 12 Hours last year. In 2015 Henk is driving the Audi in Thailand Super Series for a second consecutive season while Daniel Bilski is also competing in the Thai domestic racing series, for the first time, in our Porsche 997 GT3 Cup. Daniel is also driving for B-Quik Racing in the pan-Asian ‘Audi R8 Cup’ one make championship this year, he's won races and is currently leading the Amateur Cup standings so, as well as at last year’s Sepang 12 Hours, both these drivers have plenty of experience of the Audi to draw upon.
Henk J. Kiks: “The team is certainly excited to be going back to the Sepang 12 Hours. Last year it was our first time in a long distance race, we had never done more than twenty or thirty minute races before so it was a big test. But we prepared very well and the team rose to the occasion, we dug deep when problems hit us and getting on the podium was a great reward for everyone’s efforts. In the garage after the race I think we all looked at each other and we had already decided that we would be back this year, this is a race we want to win. It’s also very exciting that Peter will join us. After 32 years since we went to school together we got back in touch by chance at the Sepang 12 Hours a couple of years ago, we kept in touch since then and discussed racing together so it’s great that it’s now worked out. Daniel is now an integral part of B-Quik Racing, he’s been winning this year in the Audi Cup, so I think we have a perfect driver lineup to get straight back on the podium and of course the team has really grown in experience.”
Peter Kox: “It’s going to be great to return to the Sepang 12 Hours and especially to do so with B-Quik Racing, which is a competitive team that can clearly challenge. It’s a tough race as it’s a fast track and the race is held in hot and often mixed conditions and with the new European teams that SRO are going to bring this year it’s going to be an even bigger test. After a longtime I met Henk again a couple of years ago in Sepang and we have talked about racing together ever since so it’s great that it’s going to happen. I also want to thank Henk for putting this together and I expect to help the team to deliver. I’ve competed in Merdeka twice and with a win and a second place I definitely want to keep my record up and be on the podium again!”
Daniel Bilski: “I‘m absolutely delighted to drive again with B-Quik Racing in the Sepang 12 Hours. After our fantastic debut last year, where we secured second position in the GTC class, I'm confident the team will be bringing a highly competitive package to try to go one place better. To drive with Henk again will be fantastic and to have Peter Kox joining the driver line-up us shows the commitment the team is bringing to the event. Competing in the 2015 Audi R8 LMS Cup has provided me with a lot more Audi R8 LMS experience, which I will take into the 12-hour race. I’m really looking forward to the race and can’t wait to see the team in Sepang.”
